Twilight or mesoptic vision

In nighttime road traffic, perception takes place in the twilight or mesopic range, which (in contrast to day and night vision) is not yet fully understood scientifically. The perception of light in the traffic area is of great importance for the safety of road traffic at night, and the study of the effect of novel light sources in the headlamp and signal function range is an important aspect of research in automotive lighting technology.
