Progress in the Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) Technology relies critically on collaborative research and development activities within a very broad field of disciplines, including organic chemistry, material developments and device engineering. It is therefore crucial for young researchers interested in this emerging technology to have access to advanced multidisciplinary training.
The first International Summer School on Organic Photovoltaics in the Upper-Rhine Valley, organized by the Rh(e)in-Solar Project Consortium, contributes to the education of young scientists by offering a series of lectures that cover all aspects from the design of new organic molecules to the continuous production of OPV modules.
The program will address the following topics:
- General concepts related to donor-acceptor bulk-heterojunction solar cells
- Design and synthesis of conjugated polymers and organic semiconductors
- Material developments for transparent electrodes and interfacial layers
- Photo-active layer morphology
- Advanced characterizations of materials and devices
- Advanced device architectures
- Device modeling
- Roll-to-roll processing of OPV modules
- Long-term device stability and encapsulation
- Economical issues
- Electrodes in organic solar cells
